How to use social media to get more Airbnb bookings in 2026

To turn social media followers into short-term rental bookings, pick one or two platforms, usually TikTok and Instagram. Post two to three times a week, consistently. Share the guest experience rather than just your listing photos, and start posting before your property is even finished. That's the advice from Vanessa Aguirre, who runs themed bachelorette rentals in Arizona on The Independent Host – the podcast series from Host Planet and Lodgify. Catch the full episode on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts.

Which social media platforms are best for Airbnb hosts in 2026?

Don't try to be everywhere. "Pick two and try to stay consistent with the two that you've chosen," says Vanessa.

  • TikTok is best for reaching new audiences, because it puts your content in front of new viewers more easily.

  • Instagram is where interested followers go for more detail and answers to their questions, which moves them closer to booking.

Vanessa uses TikTok as the top of her funnel and Instagram to lead people towards a booking. She reuses a lot of content across both, but changes how she speaks on each platform.

How often should short-term rental hosts post?

Quality and consistency matter more than volume. If posting daily makes your content worse, don't do it. "Maybe two times, three times a week, whatever you can do consistently and at higher quality," Vanessa advises.

To create social media content to drive Airbnb bookings, she films in the TikTok app or uses simple editing tools like InShot and CapCut.

Should hosts show their face on social media?

Faceless content showing just the property can work well. But Vanessa believes "people buy from people," and showing yourself builds a connection with guests before they book.

Her biggest tip is to share the journey. When she launched her second Scottsdale property, she posted the renovation as it happened and got 15 to 20 bookings before the listing photos were even taken.

How do you turn followers into bookings?

Show what staying at your property actually feels like. For Vanessa, that means the bride walking in to see her decorations set up, or hibachi night by the pool. Whatever your niche, show the space being used.

She also:

  • Answers common guest questions in her content

  • Shows herself, so guests know who they're booking with

  • Asks guests to tag her and share their own content

What's the biggest social media mistake hosts make?

Vanessa sees two:

  1. Waiting until everything's finished before posting, which wastes the build-up

  2. Posting only listing photos. "You need lifestyle content, with people in your videos and photos using the space."

She books content shoots with models as soon as a property is finished. On a smaller budget, try user-generated content (UGC): offer a creator or family a free off-peak stay in return for photos and video. You could also book a photographer for an hour or two.

What social media content actually drives Airbnb bookings?

Trends change, so reuse what works. One of Vanessa's house-tour videos set to a trending Sabrina Carpenter song went viral. When the trend came back a year later, she reposted it and made three or four new versions, which led to bookings.

Likes and bookings aren't the same thing. Some viral posts reach other hosts rather than potential guests. Sometimes the 10-second post you threw together beats the one you spent hours on.

Check your analytics too. If viewers drop off after eight seconds, shorten your videos.

Send followers somewhere they can book

All that social media effort is wasted without a booking website to send people to. Vanessa moved to Lodgify for its direct booking site and automated guest messaging, "so everything's running smoothly while I can be off enjoying life."

Key takeaway: likes don't pay your mortgage, bookings do. Post for the guest deciding where to go next, not for the algorithm.
